Total Cases in India rise to 11,439Death Toll at 377US halts WHO funding

Coronavirus Live Updates: As India enters the first day of Lockdown 2.0 today, the total number of COVID-19 cases soared to 11,439, while the Death Toll also inched closer to 400 mark, as per the latest figures shared by the Health Ministry. Of the total number of cases, 9756 are active cases which are currently undergoing treatment while 1306 people have been cured/discharged/migrated. As of Wednesday morning, the country-wide death stands at 377 deaths. Today, Union Cabinet is expected to meet under the chairmanship of PM Modi. Easing of restrictions during extended lockdown period after 20th April 2020 is also expected to be on the cabinet meet’s agenda. Globally, US President Donald Trump has halted funding for WHO alleging that the global health agency covered up spread of deadly virus.

    1,076 fresh COVID-19 cases in 24 Hours: Health Ministry

    Health Ministry confirmed that there have been 1076 fresh cases of Coronavirus infection in the country in the last 24 hours. This has taken the total tally of COVID-19 active cases in the country to 10197 and the Death toll stood at 392. Ministry website also mentions that 1343 people have completely recoevered from the disease and have been discharged from the hospital.

    COVID-19 Hotspots and Green zones Identified: Health Ministry

    Health Ministry officials in their evening briefing said that the ministry has identified key hotspots and green zones across the country for Coronavirus infections. According to ministry officials, there are 170 COVID-19 hotspots in the country while  207 districts have been identified as non-hotspots or Green Zones.

    12 Fresh Cases reported in Rajasthan

    Rajasthan State Health officials have confirmed that 12 fresh Coronavirus cases have been reported in the state taking the states’ tally to 1046. Of the 12 fresh cases, 8 are from Jaipur while 1 each is from Dausa, Nagaur, Tonk and Jhunjhunu.

    Maharashtra State Tally rises to 2801

    Mahararashtra’s state tally of COVID-19 positive cases has grown to 2801 today. According to the details shared by the state health department, the state reported 117 fresh cases of which 66 are from Mumbai and 44 from Pune.

    Gujarat CM in self-isolation after meeting COVID-19 Positive MLA

    Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has gone into self-isolation after meeting a Congress MLA who has now tested positive for Coronvirus infection. Currently, Rupani’s health is fine and he has not shown any symptoms of the infection. He has decided to run the state without meeting anyone for next one week.

    MP Govt to give Rs 1000 each to stranded workers

    Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan today announced that the state government will be providing Rs 1000/- each to all the stranded workers whose livelihoods are impacted due to COVID-19 lockdown imposed to control the pandemic. In addition to this, the state government has also assured food and shelter provision to such workers until the crisis is over.

    MHA release SOP for Workplaces / Factories

    Along with announcing relaxations for industries who will now be allowed to resume partial operations during Lockdown 2.0, the Home Ministry has also released SOP or Standard Operating Procedures that needs to be followed to resume operations. The key highlights from them include:

    • Mandatory medical insurance for all workers
    • Mandatory thermal temperature scans of workers and provision for sanitizers
    • Staggered work shifts and 1 hour gaps between shifts
    • Staggered lunch hours
    • Frequent cleaning of common surfaces and mandatory hand washing
    • Intensive communication and training in good hygiene practices
    • Complete ban on gutkha, tobacco and spitting
    • Complete ban on non-essential visitors
    • Complete Ban on Large Meetings
    • Persons above 65 & parents of children below 5 may be encouraged to work from home
    • Regular sanitization of workplace between shifts

    Public Activities, Political, Social, Religious Functions Banned during Lockdown

    Continuing the band on public activities, the Home Ministry guidelines on Lockdown 2.0 said that from 15th April 2020 to 3rd May 2020 on public activities will be allowed across the country. This includes closure of all public places such as cinema halls, malls, shopping complexes, gymnasiums, sports complexes, swimming pools, bars. In addition to this, all social, political, sports, religious functions, religious places, places of worship shall be closed for public until the lockdown ends.

    MHA Guidelines on Lockdown 2.0

    • Agriculture allied industries including activities related to agricultural, horticultural, farming, procurement of agri products, 'mandis' will be allowed from 20th April
    • Farm machinery, its spare parts, supply chain, repairs and allied shops to be open
    • Highway 'dhabas', truck repairing shops to be open
    • Call centres for governmentt activities to be open
    • Self Employed professionals involved in IT repairs, plumbers, motor mechanics, carpenters,  electricians to be allowed
    • Grocery stores, fruit, vegetables shops or carts, milk booths, poultry, meat and fish shops to remain open

    MHA guidelines on Conditional Easing of Lockdown Restrictions

    MHA in its latest guideline has eased lockdown restrictions to give some relief and re-start economic activity in the country. The key highlights about relaxations are as follows:

    • Movement of Private Vehicles allowed in emergency (medical, veterinary care and for procuring essential commodities.). Only one passenger per two wheeler, and two passengers in 4 Wheelers allowed.
    • Industries functioning outside municipal limits allowed to resume operations
    • Manufacturing units in SEZs, Export Oriented Units (EOU), industrial estates and industrial townships allowed to resume operations, if arrangements are made for stay and transport of its workers

    Rajasthan State Tally crosses 1k mark

    Rajasthan’s state tally for COVID-19 positive cases crossed 1000 mark today. As per reports, so far, 1034 cases of Coronavirus infection have been reported from across the state. Recent reports confirm that 29 more cases have been reported in Rajasthan of which 15 from Jaipur, 7 from Jodhpur and 7 from Kota.

    MHA issues revised guidelines for extended lockdown period

    Home Ministry today issued revised lockdown guidelines that are to be followed during the extended lockdown period from 15th April to 3rd May. As per the guidelines, Cinema halls, malls, shopping complexes, gymnasiums, sports complexes, swimming pools, bars to remain closed have been asked to remain closed until 3rd May. On similar lines all educational institutions including coaching classes and others have also been closed. Taxis, services of cab aggregators also prohibited till May 3.     US registered the highest single day spike in COVID-19 deaths on 14th April 2020. As per Reuters, the death toll in US crossed 28,300 with over 2,228 deaths being reported on Tuesday. The previous single-day record was 2,069, set last Friday.

    US halts WHO funding

    US President Donald Trump has decided to halt the funding of global health agency WHO and is expected to conduct a review to assess its role in covering up the COVID-19 spread across the world. Trump announced the decision to halt US funding to WHO amid the pandemic in his daily briefing held at White House.
