Ahead of upcoming Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Gorakhpur University Student Union Elections, clashes broke out between two students groups inside the varsity premises. According to reports, the group clashed while campaigning for the student union elections scheduled for September 13. Soon after that police reached the spot and chased the protesters during which some of them suffered minor injuries. A heavy police force has been deployed in and around the university campus to avoid any untoward incident.
According to reports, it all started when a law faculty professor stopped ABVP supporters from pasting posters on the walls of the university. This infuriated some of the ABVP supporters who abused and manhandled the professor. Angry over the incident, students of law faculty took to streets shouting slogans against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, an RSS affiliated student union. During the protest, some of the students got involved in a heated argument with ABVP supporters which led to the clash.
According to reports, despite having information about the clash, Proctor and Election Officer didn't go to the spot to pacify the students. A few minutes later, police reached the spot and cane-charged the students to chase them away. Cops have detained few students involved in the clash. “They had vandalised a car. We don’t know whose car it is as yet. We have dispersed the people and have also detained 1 person’, Police said. Meanwhile, University officials have assured the students that DDU Gorakhpur University Student Union Elections will be conducted as per the guidelines issued by the Lyngdoh committee.
