Delhi School Reopening Update: As per the latest update, the Delhi Government has allowed schools in the national capital to reopen for Class 10 and 12 students from 18th January 2021 onwards. The decision to reopen schools in the state has been taken to facilitate activities for pre-board preparation and practical exams. As part of the reopening process, schools have been told to only call students for regular in-person classes with parents’ consent. Moreover, all schools will have to strictly follow and adhere to the COVID-19 precautionary guidelines and SOPs prescribed by the health department to ensure safe reopening.

Official Circular issued by DoE

To confirm the development, the Directorate of Education issued an official circular confirming reopening of schools in Delhi from 18th January 2021 onwards. The circular read “In order to conduct the activities pertaining to pre-board preparations and practical work, the head of government, aided and unaided recognised schools may call the students of classes 10 and 12 only to school with effect from January 18, 2021. However, the child should be called to school only with the consent of parents, following the enclosed standard operating procedure. Further, while the records of children coming to school be maintained, the same should not be used for attendance purposes as sending the child to school is completely optional for parents.”

No Reopening for Containment Zones

In line with the guidelines prescribed by the health department, schools in the national capital will be allowed to reopen only if they fall outside containment or micro-containment zones. Moreover, students and teachers, who reside in containment zones will not be allowed to attend schools or visit campus for any activities.

Pre-Boards and Board Exam Dates

The reopening of schools is being done to facilitate holding of pre-board exams for both Class 12 and Class 12 students. For Class 10 students, the pre-board exams will be held from 3rd March to 15th April whereas for Class 10 students it would be held from 1st to 15th April 2021. On similar lines, CBSE Board is also expected to hold practical exams from 1st March and written exams will be conducted between 3rd May 3 and 10th June 2021.

Guidelines, SOPs to be Followed

Schools have also been asked by the DoE to provide emotional and trauma support to students and teachers on their return to schools after nearly 10 months. In addition to this, schools have been instructed to not to hold any assembly and physical outdoor activities. Also to limit physical contact between students, school principals have been directed to guide students visiting campus not to share books, copies and stationary items. To ensure safe reopening, school administrators have been instructed to ensure 6-feet of social distance between students and design a staggered time-table to avoid crowding at schools. Moreover, schools have also been asked to setup hand-washing stations and sanitizing stations to help students remain free from contagion.
