DUTA's indefinite Strike Begins Today, Delhi University Exams likely to be affected as deadlock continues

DUTA’s Indefinite Strike Begins: The Delhi University Teachers Association has called for an indefinite strike against the Delhi University Principals Association's decision of not confirming the 4500 ad-hoc teachers in the university. The teachers association of Delhi University wants the HRD Ministry and the UGC to take up the demands of the teachers association and bring out a one-time notice to make all the ad-hoc teachers permanent. 

The Delhi University Teachers Association is demanding for an immediate remedy for their demands without which the teachers have stated that they will boycott the on-going semester examinations, the teachers have stated that the in case the teachers are pushed boycott the examinations, thousands of students of the university will be affected.

The teachers of the DUTA in a notice issued earlier have stated that they will not take up the invigilation duties or the answer sheet evaluation of the term examinations until their demands are met. As per media reports, the strike could lead to a disruption of the academic plans of most of the students as the term-end examinations which are currently being conducted.

The DUTA teachers have also demanded that the DUPA withdraw the circular dated August 28, 2019. It is reported that the letter has put the joining of the 4500 ad-hoc teachers working in the university in abeyance. Currently, there are 9000 teachers in the university of which 4500 are ad-hoc teachers. It has also been reported that the salaries of the said teachers have been put on hold.

The term examinations of Delhi University are presently being conducted as per schedule. Details related to the strike and the examinations will be updated soon.

The Delhi University Teachers Association has been demanding that the university administration pass an ordinance to regularization of the ad-hoc teachers. According to the teachers association, close to 4500 ad-hoc teachers have been serving the university for over a decade.
