Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said that education up to class 12 in all government schools across Delhi would be free. At present, students of classes 9 to 12 have to pay a fee of Rs 20 per month. Sisodia has directed Secretary Education to submit a proposal to scrap the fee as collection and maintenance of record is a very cumbersome process. "This amount is just 20 per month but cumbersome process of collection of this amount and maintenance of record by the teacher in-charge is unwarranted,” the statement issued by the government read.
Education till class 8 in government schools across the national capital is already free.
Sisodia also directed the senior officials of the DoE to give top priority to the grievance of teachers.
"He (Sisodia) said that teachers need to be supported and any task which takes their time away from teaching-learning activities should be reduced by simplifying the process and using appropriate technology," according to the statement.
