Emphasising that a teacher or Guru plays a very important role in building up the future of a nation, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said that 'Google can never replace Guru'. "Technology is also important, but Google can never replace Guru, he said. The Vice President also asked teachers to take responsibility of transforming children into responsible citizens. "Guru plays the most important role in building up the future of our nation by educating children," he said after interacting with the children from GD Goenka La'Petite Preschool who came to wish him on the occasion of Independence Day.
During the interaction, the Vice President once again stressed upon the importance of the mother tongue. "Mother is the first Teacher to a child and they should be taught about Mother, Motherland and Mother tongue. We should teach them about our traditions and rich cultural heritage. Their education should begin with a good grounding in their mother tongue, he added," he added.
Earlier, the Vice President had appealed all state governments to include teaching of mother tongue as a mandatory subject in school. "One can learn as many languages as one can, but never (should) neglect their mother tongue. That is why preservation of language is essential to conserve the broader cultural aspects of a civilization," he had said.
The Vice President recently set a record in the Rajya Sabha by speaking in 10 languages. He spoke in Gujarati, Kannada, Bangla, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu to inform the members of the Upper House that that simultaneous interpretation service of the 22 languages listed in the eighth schedule of the Constitution has been made available.
