Government approves Rs 2,800 crore for establishment of 7 new IIMs, tweets HRD Minister

After the announcement of the construction of a new permanent campus for the IIM Sambalpur, the HRD Minister has posted the full list of the budget allocated to establish 7 new IIMs in the country. As per HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar's tweet, Rs 2,804.09 crore has been allocated for new IIMs. The Indian Institutes of Management or IIMs are a group of 20 autonomous institutes of management education and research in India. They offer postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programmes. An IIM is a dream college for all MBA aspirants who are striving to secure their management careers. The establishment of IIMs was initiated by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, based on the recommendation of the Planning Commission.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar took to Twitter to express his happiness. He mentioned the list of the institutes along with the allocated budget for each one.

"The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the establishment and operationalisation of permanent campus of seven new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs),” said a government statement. The institutes are in Amritsar, Bodh Gaya, Nagpur, Sambalpur, Sirmaur, Visakhapatnam, and Jammu. Each of these IIMs will be constructed in an area of 60,384 sqm, which will have complete infrastructural facilities for 600 students in each IIM, the statement said.

For the admission at various IIMs an aspirant has to appear in the CAT entrance examination. All the candidates who have planned to pursue MBA courses can now apply at the official website that is iimcat.ac.in. The registration link is now active on the home page and the students can register themselves for the examination. The last date to register for the examination is September 19, 2018. The admit card download window will open on October 24th, 2018. The students will be able to download the admit card till the date of the examination. Each student can choose 4 centers of their choice, out of which they will be allotted with the accurate and available center.
