Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation sanctioned funding to the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad - Center for Healthcare Entrepreneurship (CfHE) Fellow for implementing an innovative Global Health and Development Research Project. The main aim of this project is to increase vaccinations coverage across India. An IT Engineer and an MBA (Sales and Marketing) graduate, Jignesh Patel, who joined the CfHE in 2018, is a winner of 'Grand Challenges Explorations' Grant and will take up his project titled 'VaccineOnWheels.com' under the firm Jivika Healthcare Private Limited. Jignesh Patel has an experience of 11 years in Business Development, Channel Sales, Sales and Marketing Strategy. With the help of the funding sanctioned by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Jignesh Patel has started a pilot project in Pune on increasing the demand for vaccination through his unique model.
The main aim of this project is to provide customized vaccinations at homes and schools through vaccinations smartphone-based management application so that children from every section of the society can get the necessary vaccinations even at a very low cost.
According to Jignesh Patel who left the corporate world to take up a Fellowship at CfHE, IIT Hyderabad, "Vaccination is a right for every child and parents as a child can be protected from many life-threatening Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD). "To increase the immunity of a child through vaccination instead of a child going to a clinic, the ecosystem should appreciate parents and child by taking the clinic to the child. " he added.
In 2007, the Gates Foundation has launched Grand Challenges Explorations to get great ideas from all over the world.
