The Indian Institute of Technology has begun the registration for the third edition of its Young Innovators Programme. The application process began on July 18, 2019. The programme which aims at bringing out the innovative capabilities of students from class 8 to 10 is a competitive platform which empowers greenhorns to solve real-life challenges through innovation.
The themes for this year are energy and environment, health and cleanliness, hardware modeling, product designing, disaster management, and financial inclusion. The first two rounds of the programme will be online while the final rounds will be held at IIT Kharagpur.
The first round which begins on July 20, 2019, will have students conceptualize their innovations. The students who are selected will move on to the second round which will be in fine tune with their proposals and demonstrations through videos.
The last two rounds which are scheduled to be held on November 8 and 9, 2019, will have selected students who will demonstrate working models of the products and processes and make feasibility presentation of their projects.
The students participating will receive guidance from faculty members, researchers, and students of the institute who will mentor them during different phases of the competition. Anandaroop Bhattacharya, Associate Dean (International Relations) and faculty member of Mechanical Engineering Department at the university said that with the help of the programme the institute aims at igniting the spirits of innovation in young minds and also enable them to think beyond barriers.
The Young Innovator Programme was conceptualized in 2017 and reached out to over 2000 schools in the previous year.
