COVID-19 Lockdown: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has extended the closure of all the state educational institutions until 30 June 2021 because of the ongoing pandemic situation. As part of the new restrictions, all schools, colleges, universities, technical or skill development institutions in the state will remain closed. Based on the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the State Education Department has restricted the on-campus teaching.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the schools and colleges to continue the online mode of education till further notice. However, such staff of educational institutions are needed by the concerned District Disaster Management Authorities for official duties shall not be exempted from duties on account of this Order. 

Jammu and Kashmir Restrictions

  • All Schools, Colleges, Universities, Technical Education / Skill Development Institutes and Coaching Centers shall remain closed for in-person/ on-campus teaching.
  • The teaching staffs shall also be required to conduct online classes from their homes only.
  • The Universities and Colleges will be permitted to seek in-person attendance of minimal staff, only for research or lab work.
  • Also, the staffs from these education institutions needed by the concerned District Disaster Management Authorities will not be exempted from the duties as per this order.

The order was released by the administration following the surge and applies to all educational institutes in the union territory. Earlier, the authorities directed to shut down all schools till 15th June. All government, government-aided and private schools in the state were included in the order and would remain closed till the end of the month pending further review. 

Jammu and Kashmir Board Examination 2021

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has also cancelled the class 10th and 12th board exams. The official body will soon finalise the evaluation criteria to announce the result of the board exams. As per the official statement of Lt. Governor’s office, “In view of safety and well-being of students due to Covid pandemic, all pending JKBOSE Examinations session 2020-21 (Regular/Private) for final exams of class XI and XII across JKUT for which examination/results are awaited, are cancelled. The detailed procedure for publishing results along with a scheme of marking will be completed by JKBOSE shortly.”
