Jharkhand state Education Department is likely to promote the students of classes 1 to 7 to the next year without conducting any annual examination. A notification regarding the same is expected to be issued by the department to the government schools across the state shortly.
Schools in the state have been closed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the students. Students in the previous academic year were also promoted without examinations since the endemic situation was at its peak during the time.
According to the officials, the Jharkhand Education Project Council will be drafting strategies to promote the students without examinations. The plans to promote the students will be prepared as per the other states like Chhattisgarh and Bihar. A final decision on this is yet to be taken by the Jharkhand state government.
Baseline Assessment for students
The state government had already decided to reopen the schools for the students from class 9 from March 1, 2021, while the decision on reopening the schools for the students from class 1 to 7 is yet to be taken. And since the schools have not yet opened for classes 1 to 7 it will be difficult to conduct the examinations which is why the Jharkhand education department is planning for a baseline assessment of the students instead of conducting the exams.
The baseline assessment will help in understanding the status of the online classes for the students and help in identifying the students who have faced difficulties during the classes.
This assessment will help the schools to arrange special classes for the students for the first two-three months and the students will be able to learn the basics and essentials from the previous academic session.
