Maharashtra Board SSC Result 2020: Students who appeared in Maharashtra Board Class 10 exams 2020 will now be awarded average marks in the Geography subject. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has announced awarding of average marks in the Geography paper of the Maharashtra SSC Board exam 2020. The Maharashtra Board Class 10 Geography exam 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 lockdown. With the prevalent situation in the state, the Board is unable to conduct exams for the said paper and will award average marks to the students. The awarding of average marks rule will also be applied to the Vocational papers of Maharashtra Board 2020 exams which were cancelled due to the lockdown.
The Board, in an unprecedented move, cancelled the pending paper for Geography on 13th April 2020 for reportedly over 17 lakh students who had appeared in the Maharashtra Board SSC exams. The papers were initially postponed by the Board. However, the Maharashtra Board officials had commented that there was no marking scheme prescribed in their existing rules for a situation as dire as such. The decision to award average marks to the Class 10 students for the cancelled papers was taken by the Maharashtra Board after consultation with experts.
The Board also issued a circular for the same post-consultation. As per the circular released by the Maharashtra Board, a student will be awarded his/her average score for the cancelled Geography paper. To calculate the average score, the examiners will take into account the average marks obtained by a student in all the other subjects s/he has appeared in the Maharashtra SSC Board exams 2020 and that score will be counted as the score for the Geography subject.
