The candidates who are willing to take admission in Mumbai’s junior college (FYJC) can brace themselves as the first come, first served (FCFS) round has been started for 76,211 seats today. This year, there are only few seats in Commerce and Arts steams whereas the Science stream offers seats in abundance.

Last week, in a special round of admission, 2.08 lakh out of 2.43 lakh aspirants confirmed seats in various colleges. “Many students haven’t reported despite being allotted seats. They might have gone to non state board colleges or polytechnic courses,” said an official. For the admission of the FCFS rounds, students have been categorized on basis on scores—above 80%, 60% and 35% and allotted slots to claim seats one after the other. “We have posted a video on the admission portal to understand the process. Students must watch it carefully,” said the official to TOI.

Keeping the current scenario in mind, the experts believe that the students looking for a seat in the commerce and the arts stream might be left disappointed. Most colleges have seats in large number in only the science stream. Mumbai’s most renowned college Mithibai College has only eight and five seats for the arts and the commerce stream respectively, there are 183 seats in the science stream. The FCFS round gives a student a chance to get admission in the most popular colleges.
