NEET UG 2019: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for the medical UG programmes might not be conducted twice from 2019. As per the recent updates by the HRD Ministry, the government is planning to roll out the decision of conducting the NEET entrance examination twice a year. It was earlier decided by the government the NTA might start conducting the NEET UG 2018 examination, two times, from next year. As per the reports, the HRD ministry is planning a proposal of the health ministry to continue with the offline mode at least for 2019.
According to the reports by HRD official, “status quo for the undergraduate medical entrance test in 2019 with no change”. About a month earlier, the HRD minister Prakash Javadekar proclaimed the plan to conduct the medical or dental entrance examination along with the Joint Entrance Examination - Main, for engineering twice a year by the newly formed National Testing Agency (NTA). Along with this, it was also announced that all the examinations conducted by the NTA will be computer based. The ministry also declared the tentative schedule for the exams. As per the tentative time-table NEET UG 2019 was scheduled for February 2019 with a repeat on May 2019.
As per the reports by the Times of India, it has been stated that, under pressure from the health ministry, the HRD ministry is “reconsidering the decision to conduct NEET twice in 2019. Also, the health ministry has proposed to continue the test on pen-paper mode in 2019”. The HRD ministry is yet to make any final statement on this. According to the HRD official, “The health ministry also feels that CBSE should assist NTA in the conduct of the exam as the Board has been conducting it for many years, earlier in the form of PMT.”
