National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), formerly known as National Open School (NOS), has extended the last date for admission to various vocational courses. Interested candidates who want to pursue vocational courses from the institute will now be able to apply on or before August 31, 2018. Interestingly, this is the second time when NIOS has extended the deadline for admission in its various courses. Earlier the deadline was extended till July 31, 2018. It provides a number of vocational courses independently and also along with other mainstream secondary and senior secondary courses. NIOS also offers Elementary level Courses through its Open Basic Education Programmes (OBE).
NIOS is an educational organisation which imparts education through Open and Distance Learning Mode and also conducts examinations for grant of certificates upto pre-degree level at par with other National Boards viz. the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE).
It has been vested with the authority to enroll, examine and certify students in school education courses up to the pre-degree level. Just like CBSE and CISCE, NIOS acts as a national level Board of school education. The students who successfully complete their courses of study from NIOS can apply for competitive examinations and take admission in higher education courses just like students passed from different other boards.
Under its online course under Virtual Open Schooling (VOS), it offers two vocational courses - Diploma in Rural Technology and Certificate in ICT Applications.
It is providing a number of Vocational, Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at Secondary and Senior Secondary level. It also offers Elementary level Courses through its Open Basic Education Programmes (OBE).
Its mission is to provide relevant and holistic education up to pre-degree level through Open and Distance Learning System and also to contribute to the Universalisation of School Education.
NIOS has made it presence felt across the length and breadth of the country. Not only this, it has some centres in international arena. There are more than 6000 study centres of NIOS in India, with some in foreign countries, for delivery of its programmes like Open Basic Education, Secondary Education, Senior Secondary Education and Vocational Education.
NIOS has introduced 100% On-line admission at the Secondary and the Senior Secondary level in order to facilitate learners in registering themselves with it.
