According to the latest media reports, the Odisha Chief Minister has suggested that the National Level Entrance Examinations such as the JEE Main and NEET entrance exams must be conducted only after the state has completed the class 12 pending examinations. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik put forth his request during a video conference conducted with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The chief minister, in the video conference conducted, stated that the National Level entrance Examinations like CLAT, NEET, JEE Main, and other similar examinations should be conducted only after the state board class 12 examinations are completed. The examinations were postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown imposed across the country. The government postponed all the state UG and PG college entrance examinations and the schools and colleges will remain shut until June 30, 2020, which is also the last day of the fifth phase of the lockdown.
The Odisha Chief Minister is concerned that the students of the state will get adequate time for preparing since the board exams will also be scheduled to be conducted roughly around the same time. The chief minister further pointed out that in case the students do not pass the board exam but clears the entrance examination the seat will be wasted.
Along with this request, the Chief Minister has also asked the central government to take steps to bring back the people who are stranded in Gulf countries and also request the centre to continue the restrictions on trains and air travel to the state.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is conducted for the admissions to the medical programmes.The examinations which were scheduled to be conducted on May 5, 2020, have been postponed due to the lockdown and will now be conducted on July 26, 2020. The admit card for NEET 2020 is expected to be released online for download at least 15 days prior to the examination.
The JEE Main 2020 examinations which were scheduled to be conducted in April 2020 will now be conducted from July 18 to 23, 2020. The exams will be conducted in two shifts.
