The Department of Psychiatry at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research has inaugurated a new ward for child and adolescent psychiatry on Thursday. The department was inaugurated by the Director of PGI, Professor Jagat Ram, for the neuro-developmental disorders. The neuro-developmental disorders are very gruesome and they usually affect many children and adolescents. It generally includes intellectual subnormality, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperkinetic disorder, anxiety disorders, depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders and substance use disorders.
Most of the children and adolescents who are suffering from these problems require inpatient treatment. The new ward will be helping in giving inpatient services to Children & Adolescents suffering from mental health problems.
These types of measures will help in strengthening the training programme of D.M. course in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. All the trained students will help in the dissemination of service & manpower development in this field in other parts of the country.
