The Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation yesterday through his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. In his conversation, he applauded all the students who have appeared for the examination this year. PM Modi hailed the young achievers who overcame challenges and succeeded. Anushka Panda, now a class 11th student of Suncity School, Gurugram received a special mention in today’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. She became All India topper in the specially abled category this year by scoring 97.8 percent marks in Class 10th board examinations 2018.
Anushka, a 15-year-old is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) is a genetic disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, affecting the ability to walk. The hardships that she faces due to being wheelchair-bound did not affected her dreams.
In the 46th edition of the radio show addressing ‘Mann ki Baat’ PM Modi stated, “I came across the news of Gurugram’s specially abled daughter Anushka Panda who is suffering from a physical condition called Spinal Muscle Atrophy. Anushka didn’t let her disability deter from becoming an All India topper“.
There are a lot of students who are specially abled and the students from economically weaker families who didn’t let their adverse situations to become a hindrance in the path of their success. Mentioning various examples of such students who embraced success despite the unfavorable financial situation, he said: “These students proved that with determination and hard work any milestone can be achieved. “ He also congratulated all these students on their achievements.
Elated after knowing that PM Modi has congratulated her, Anushka shared her joy by stating,” I am thrilled with the mention I received in today’s Mann Ki Baat. I had never thought that the Prime Minister himself will congratulate me on my board results. I am thankful to him for his kind words and encouragement. I will continue to strive and attain success in all my endeavors and make my school and parents proud. I would like to thank my school which has been extremely supportive. Since I am a special child, my school ensured that I was provided with a special infrastructure to write my examination. It has been my biggest encouragement of all the time.”
Rupa Chakravarty, Principal, Suncity School shared her happiness saying, “She is a pride of our school and an inspiration for all of us. The focus she possesses is rare to find. What she has achieved is an example to other students. She has not only excelled in education but also in singing, gaming, and participates in all co-curricular activities. Anushka loves playing chess during her leisure hours and aspires to become a software engineer, for which she has chosen Science stream and wants to pursue the course from IIT. Delighted by her daughter’s success, her mother Archana Panda shared, " We are very happy and proud of Anushka. We are thankful to the Prime Minister for encouraging her and congratulating her.
