Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced the distribution of free uniforms and textbooks for government school students. The students will be provided with free uniforms and textbooks under the ‘Back to School programme’ announced in the state budget of 2021-22.
The Chief Minister in his budget speech stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on school education and the academic year which turned into a Zero year. The Back to School programme is being launched by the Rajasthan state government in order to bridge the gap of learning intervals of the students under which the study materials will be provided to them and they will be made comfortable towards classes.
Free school uniforms will be provided to the government school students until class 8 while free books will be provided to the students from class 6 to 8. The state government is spending Rs. 470 Crore for the Back to school programme. The state chief minister further added that smart TV will be installed at all the government secondary and senior secondary schools and Kasturba Gandhi Residential schools in the state for the digital learning of the students.
Agriculture subjects will be taught in over 600 government schools in the state. The state chief minister has also announced that 1200 new English Medium Mahatma Gandhi Schools will be set ip in the coming two years which will be an increase in the infrastructure facilities in schools, directorate of peace and non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Governance and Social Sciences in Jaipur, new colleges including Girls Sanskrit College and new Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Advanced Technology at Jaipur, Science and Space Clubs in 1500 government schools.
Sports Sector initiatives
The chief minister has announced Major Dhyanchand Stadium Scheme for the sports sector which is for developing stadiums. The government will also be setting up an indoor stadium in Pratapgarh, a new residential sports school in Jodhpur and Jaipur and development work at Barkatullah Khan Cricket Stadium Jodhpur. A new archery academy will also be set at Dungarpur and Handball academic in Jaisalmer will be set up as per the new budget.
