Rajasthan University students' election is underway in the state to select University and College president. The voting is underway at nearly 93 polling stations in the state and over 1000 teachers and employees have been given the responsibility of conducting the elections. The elections, whose results would be announced on September 11, 2018, are crucial as state Assembly elections are around the corner. Proper security arrangements have been made by the administration to conduct the elections peacefully. Also, the Rajasthan University has released a set of guidelines for students to inconvenience in using their franchise.
According to the guidelines issued by the varsity, the students will have to carry their college or university identity card to the polling booth. The administration has introduced barcode based identity cards this year and a student will be allowed inside the polling station only after the identity card is scanned. Student's ID card will be punched and his or her forefingers marked with indelible ink after casting the vote. This year, teachers too were seen apprising students about the importance of casting votes and urged them to participate in large numbers.
“Students union election is a responsibility and accountability toward the university for the students. Teachers should play their part in motivating students to vote," Dean, Student's Welfare, Sabina Kalia was quoted as saying by HT. For security arrangements, over 100 CCTV cameras have been installed and 1000 policemen have been deployed at Rajasthan University campus. Vehicles without a pass will not be allowed inside the campus during the election process. There are over 22,000 students who will cast their vote in Jaipur alone.
