Schools in Karnataka for the students from class 6 to 8 have reopened from today - September 6, 2021, onwards. According to reports, however, the schools have resumed only in the districts where the COVID positivity rate is less than 2 percent. The state government took the decision to reopen the schools for the students of classes 6 to 8 on August 30, 2021, and a final decision on this was made after a meeting with the state Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Higher Secondary Classes resumed
Schools in Karnataka have already resumed classes for the students from class 9 to 12 from August 23, 2021. The offline classes for the students resume following the strut COVID-19 protocols. Attendance of the students is not mandatory and those students who do not resume offline classes have the option to attend online classes. Approximately 3.8 million students from classes 6 to 8 will be attending the offline classes in Karnataka.
Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and SAKALA BC Nagesh recently stated that the schools will resume for the students of class 6 to 8 with all the necessary arrangements made by the state Education Department and other departments for the safety of the students.
Classes on alternative days
The classes will be conducted on alternative days and further protocols including wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and using hand sanitizers are to be followed by the students and teachers attending offline classes.
For students to attend offline classes, they are required to submit the consent forms of their parents or guardians and all the school staff members including the teaching and nonteaching staff members are required to be fully vaccinated before entering the school premises.
Karnataka Chief Minister earlier stated that the government has not yet made any decision on reopening the schools for the primary students from class 1 to 5.
Many of the state governments with less than 2 percent COVID cases have reopened the schools. Offline classes are being conducted under strict COVID protocols following the SOPs and guidelines ensuring the safety of the students attending the offline classes.
