The government school teachers would lose one-day salary if they fail to attend the Teachers' Day state-level programme being organised by the Rajasthan Education Department. According to reports, the state government and the education department are planning a grand celebration on September 5 and the decision has been taken to make it a success. The order, issued by the education department of the state, will be applicable to teachers appointed after December 13, 2013. However, it is not clear why the order has been issued for teachers appointed only after this particular date. Some people are saying that the education department has made it mandatory for teachers appointed under the tenure of the present government.
Some schools might have an undeclared leave for some days before the grand function as it is being ensured that the invited teachers are relieved of their duties four days before the event. "Earlier there used to be certain parameters to invite teachers. The invite was sent to teachers who excelled in their performance and hence were felicitated for a cause. However, this is sheer politicisation of education which should not have been done," Surendra Saharan, patron, Rajasthan Senior Teacher's Association said while referring to the invite sent to the teachers appointed by the government.
When asked about his next move regarding the development, Saharan said the orders have been passed in haste and now there is just no time for discussion. The association has submitted a memorandum to senior officials of the education department but, it is too late now as they have passed immediate orders and ID cards are ready too. According to reports, nearly 80,000 teachers who got an appointment in the tenure of present government have been asked to reach Jaipur for the grand function. Interestingly, the state government has decided to give travel allowance to these teachers and has sanctioned Rs 8.5 crore for the same.
