The UP state government has decided to promote the first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students in the universities in the state considering the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The new academic session for the universities will begin on September 13, 2021, in the state.
Final year students to be assessed
As per media reports, the UP deputy CM had announced that the students in the final year/ semester of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be assessed based on the exams conducted. The colleges where the exams for the 5th semester UG and 3rd Semester PG were not held, the marks in the last semester will be based on the previous semester's marks.
The students in the second year who have not taken the exams last year will also be able to appear for the exams and those who are not satisfied with the marks will be allowed to appear for the improvement exams in one or all the subjects to be held in 2022-23.
OMR based tests
The state and private universities are required to conduct the OMR-based test consisting of multiple-choice questions by mid-August and the government has recommended that the universities reduce the duration of the exams and the number of questions asked in the exams. The exams which were conducted for 3 hours will be conducted in 90 minutes and the number of questions has also been reduced to 5 instead of 10.
Option for online exams
The state government further added that the universities should consider the options of online exams in feasible courses and has also recommended universities to award marks of practical exams for the semester/graduating students as per the performance in the theory exams. The viva voce is also required to be conducted online and the final decision on the modalities of conducting the exams will be taken by the different universities. The results are to be announced by August 31, 2021.
In universities that conduct UG PG in the annual mode, the first-year students will be promoted to the second year. The first-year results of the students will be prepared based on the performance in the second-year exams when the students appear for the same. Universities that conducted the first-year exams in 2020 will be preparing the second-year results of the students based on their performance in the first year and the students will also be promoted to the third year. In the universities which could not conduct the exams the students will have to appear for the exams in the second year through OMR test and based on this performance the students will be promoted to the third year.
For the semester system students, the second-semester students who have not appeared for the exams, the universities will prepare the results based on the performance in the first semester and mid-term exams of the second semester. The same will also be applicable to the UG and PG students who are in the odd semester. In the institution where the exams have not conducted the marks of the off semester will be based on the performance of the students in the midterms and the results of even semesters will be prepared based on the marks of the previous semester.
