IISc Bangalore and 3 IITs have emerged among the top 50 universities and higher education institutes in the latest edition of the World University Rankings 2019. The three IITs which have been featured among the top 50 include IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee and IIT Kanpur. The World University Ranking 2019 were derived using the 3 performance indicators which will help list and rank the best varsities among the top Emerging Economies across the world.
China secures top spot; India retains 2nd Position
The World University Ranking 2019 were announced by the Times Higher Education on January 15th in which the top 10 spots were dominated by Universities from China. India secured the second spot in the list with 49 higher education institutes being featured among the top 200 in the world. This year, India has improved its position by having 49 universities on the list as compared to 42 in 2018. India also managed to have 10 universities among the top 100 in the world this year as per the Emerging Economies University Rankings released recently.

The Emerging University Ranking 2019 takes into account the following factors for deciding the ranking of different varsities 43 countries.

- Research (Volume, Income and Reputation)
- Citations (Research Influence)
- International Outlook (Staff, Students and Research)
- Industry Income (Knowledge Transfer).
In total, 442 universities were considered to derive the World University Ranking 2019 for Emerging Economies.
