Birla Institute of Technology and Science is an Indian institute of higher education and also a deemed university which comprise of 15 academic departments and the main focus of these universities is on undergraduate education in the field of engineering and sciences. The institute was established in the year 1964. Admission to BITS is majorly done by all India computerized competitive entrance examination and it is purely merit based assessed by BITSAT examination.
Apart from focusing on written aspects the university majorly focuses on practical areas in order to enhance the knowledge of the students. During this period, students work with various companies in India. The campuses for the same are located in Pilani, Goa and Dubai. In the year 1999, the enrolment expanded from 2500 to 4000 and in the year 2006 BITS Pilani acquired 200 acres of land from Andhra Pradesh government through the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority for a new campus.
Campus in Pilani follows the tradition of long serving vice chancellors. Since the year 2005 the admission to the students is offered on the basis of student performance on the All India entrance examination the BITS admission test(BITSAT). The applications for the same are submitted in the month of December which is conducted online in the month of May and June in different cities all over India. The examination conducted by the university basically test the aspirant’s knowledge, reasoning abilities, analytical abilities in English, Physics, Chemistry, Logical reasoning, Mathematics, and is essentially based on higher secondary curricula in India as well as abroad. There is also certain eligibility criterion which is important for the students to follow and abide by. Students are required to obtain a minimum of 75% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics, in the higher secondary examination. BITSAT or the pattern of examination differs from the conventional written examination.
Once the students have cleared the entrance examination there is lot more to look forward. The university offers plenty of extra -curricular activities such as drama club, photography, dance, sports and many more. Cultural fest organized by the university makes colleges from all over the country participate in the same. The fest continues for a week or so and students on a large scale take part in the same. There are essay writing competitions, debates, symposium and what not. All such activities offer a big platform to the students in order to enhance their respective skills.
