Punjab University is a public state university which is located in Chandigarh Union territory. The campus is entirely residential and is spread over 550 acres. The university has 75 teaching departments and 15 centers/ chairs mainly for teaching and research at the main campus located in Chandigarh. The university has approximately 188 affiliated colleges spread over the states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh with regional centers at Ludhiana, and Hoshiarpur cities in Punjab state.
The university comprises of 65 departments, 15 centers / chairs on the campus and four regional centers under different faculties such as Arts, Science, Law, Education, Business management, engineering and technology, and pharmaceutical sciences. Most of the departments have their own respective libraries.
The campus of Punjab University has several amenities such as State Bank of India branch, open theatre, public transport system, staff clubs and other facilities. The teaching departments, students’ hostels and other amenities are within the walking distance of one another. The university leaves no stone unturned to offer qualitative education to the students.
The University also offers Department of chemical engineering and technology. The department was disrupted during partition of India when majority of the students came to India. Over the years the department has evolved and has grown in stature. The courses which the department offers are bachelor of engineering in chemical engineering, bachelor of engineering food technology, B.E electronics and communication engineering, bachelor of Laws, Master of computer applications and many more.
All these examinations play a very important role in the life of students. Seeking admission into reputed college is not a cake walk. The university even has two departments for teaching law. Both the departments have separate academic blocks. For instance, degree of LLB, a three year course and there is a certain eligibility criteria for the same. Candidates should score a minimum of 45% marks and candidates appearing for L.L.M should pass graduation with at least 45% marks in any discipline. The department conducts a separate admission test for both courses on the pattern of Union Public Service Commission. The institute also offers B.A LLB hons five year integrated course and comprise of approximately one hundred and eighty seats.
Not only this, the university also offers management school courses to the students. Students here are only selected through their respective scores in entrance examination. It is mandatory for the students to clear the cut offs and once the cut offs are cleared, students are then and there provided admissions.
The Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar is planning to increase the strength of the students within four year from 1765 to 3000.
Every year, 6 to 8 Million students enroll in colleges but at the time of graduation, only 8-10% of them have a job.
