In the year 2016, the class 12th examinations were held in the month of March and the results will be announced in last week month of May 2016. Approximately 2.5 lakh students appeared for the examinations. A total of 2, 54, 860 candidates appeared for the examinations. While 2, 08,845 candidates from humanities registered for the examinations whereas 27,969 students wrote the examinations from the science stream. The number of candidates who registered from the commerce stream was 16,815. A total of 1232 vocational students also took up the examination. And according to the sources approximately 1, 31,975 boys and 1, 21,681 girls wrote the class 12th examinations for the year 2014.

All these examinations play an important role in the life of students. The education board of Assam has left no stone unturned to offer qualitative education to the students. The Assam Board of Education was established on 1st June 1984 to regulate, supervise, and develop the system of secondary and higher secondary education.
