NTA JEE Main Results 2021 – Score Calculation

The JEE Main exam for admission to Engineering will be held in four phases, whereas for the BPlan and BArch (Architecture) courses, it will be held in two Phases In order to derive a common merit list and JEE Mains Rank List, the NTA will follow a normalization of scores process. The percentile scores for all the candidates that appear for JEE Main 2021 will be prepared using the normalization process. Let’s take a look at the normalization process and find out how JEE Main 2021 Result scores will be calculated using it:

  • As per the official notification of the NTA for JEE Main 2021, the following normalization process would be followed to compile JEE Main Result 2021.
  • Classification of candidates into four different sessions
  • Each session to have equal number of candidates
  • Session-wise JEE Main Result 2021 will be compiled in three forms i.e.
  • Raw Score
  • Percentile Score
  • Total Percentile
  1. The Percentile scores for the Total Raw Score for all the four sessions (for instance, Session-1: Day-1 Shift-1, Session2: Day-1 Shift-2, Session-3: Day-2 Shift-1 and Session-4: Day-2 Shift-2) will then be merged and will be called as NTA scores.
  2. This NTA Score will be used for the compilation of result and preparation of overall Merit List / Ranking.
  3. The Raw Score and the Percentile score will be calculated separately for the three subjects for each session. Check the image below.

JEE Mains Result 2021 - Raw Score

JEE Main Raw Score refers to the marks scored by the candidates in the JEE Main exam. The marks listed as raw score in JEE Main Result 2021 are secured by the candidates as per the marking scheme of the exam as notified by the National Testing Agency / NTA. As per the JEE Main 2021 marking scheme, candidates are awarded 4 marks for each correct answer and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. This, the final JEE Main 2021 Result raw score would be the final figure that is obtained by adding the marks awarded for all the correct answers and deducting the marks for incorrect answers from them.

JEE Mains Result 2021 - Percentile Score

The score of JEE Main exam result will be announced in terms of percentile for the candidates. The JEE Main Percentile score is calculated by ranking the performance of one candidate against all the others who have appeared for the JEE Main exam. Simply put, the percentile score for JEE Main 2021 Result describes the comparative position of the candidate with regards to all the candidates who have appeared for the entrance examination.

Take for an example, if 100 candidates appeared in the JEE Main exam and one of them managed to score more marks as compared to the 99 other candidates, the score of that candidate would secure 99 percentile.

JEE Main 2021 Result: Rank List and Merit List

NTA will follow the below mentioned process to compile JEE Main 2021 Result and JEE Main 2021 Rank or Merit list.

Step 1: Compilation of NTA Score for Phase 1 (February)

The JEE Main 2021 Phase 1 Exam will be conducted soon in 3-day window. NTA will compile the JEE Mains Result 2021 for Phase 1 in multiple sessions. The NTA score for each session will be compiled on the basis of Raw scores obtained by the candidates. The result will comprise the four NTA scores for each of the three subjects (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) and the total for the first attempt.

Step 2: Compilation of NTA Score for Phase 2 (March)

Similarly, the JEE Main Result for Phase 2 i.e. the exam which will be conducted in March will be compiled using the same method followed for the Phase 1 exam. The NTA score for Phase 2 will be calculated session-wise on the basis of Raw scores of the test-takers. The result will be displayed by calculating the NTA scores for all the sessions separately.

Step 3: Preparation of JEE Main 2021 Result and JEE Main 2021 Merit List

The candidate' JEE Main 2021 result scores of all the four phases will be calculated separately. Candidate’s best performance in one the four attempts will be considered at the time of the counseling for granting admission. Simply put, the best of four NTA scores is considered for the preparation of the JEE Main merit list.

JEE Main 2021 Result - Tie-Breaking Criteria

In case two candidates secure the equal marks in the JEE Main 2021 Paper 1 Result, the following tie-breaker formula will be applied to prepare the merit list:
