The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur was established by Government of Manipur to provide the education in the Manipur state. The board was built under the Act of Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1972. By making changes, the act was upgraded to do the recognition of standard I and VIII to the BSEM.

The board comprise of 226 Government, 103 Government aided and 457 Private making a total of 786 high and higher secondary schools in the state. The schools are managed by government and private authorities. The board conducts the examination for 10th class and 12th class at the end term in the month of March/April every year.
