Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education established in the year 1910 is under the purview of the Department of Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Board of Education is responsible for evaluating students’ progress by conducting two broad examinations one at the end of class 10 and other at the end of class 12. The scores from the class 12th board examinations are used by various universities to determine the eligibility and also as a cut off for admissions in their programs.

Tamilnadu Board has declared the Class 12th Exam 2015 Result on 7 May 2015. A total of 8,82,260 students wrote the Tamilnadu Class 12th examination 2015, and the pass percentage was 90.6 per cent. Amongst the boys, the pass percentage was 87.5 per cent, while the girls had a pass percentage of 93.4 per cent. A total of 5,03,318 students scored over 60 per cent. In the general stream, 3,49,734 boys and 4,25,596 girls appeared for the examination, while 39,149 boys and 24,812 girls from the vocational stream appeared for the examination.
12th Results 2016 Tamilnadu
The Tamil Nadu HSC Class 12 (Plus 2) results were announced on Thursday, 7 May, at 10 pm. More than eight lakh students had appeared for the examination conducted by the Tamil Nadu Board of Higher Secondary Education. The early reports state that the total pass percentage stands at 90.06 percent. In the last few years, the passing percentage of girls have seen marginal rise.
Sresha C S of Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Mogappair East and Mahalakshmi S of DAV Higher Secondary School at Gopalapuram are the state first rank holders with an aggregate of 1194 marks, out of 1200 marks. Radhesh C R of Prince Matriculation Higher Secondary School Madipakkam is the state third rank holder with 1192 marks. Sresha is also the subject topper in French and English with 198 and 197 marks respectively. Mahalakshmi is the state topper in Sanskrit with 200 marks.
However, according to the Tamil Nadu government, Pavithra J from Vikas Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Tiruppur and Nivetha L B of Sri Sowdeshwari Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore are toppers with 1192 marks. The state government considers students who chose Tamil as second language to be toppers.
