Defence Ministry clears arms procurement contracts worth Rs 2,420 crore for Navy, Army

Union Cabinet approves setting up of AIIMS in Bilaspur

Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), AIIMS have already been established in Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Raipur, Jodhpur, Rishikesh and Patna, while work of AIIMS Rae Bareli is in progress. Three AIIMS in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Kalyani (West Bengal) and Mangalagiri in Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) were also sanctioned in 2015.

Arunachal Pradesh becomes second ODF state in Northeast

The state of Arunachal Pradesh has become the second state in the Northeast, after Sikkim, to be declared Open Defecation Free. The feat was deemed completed after three remaining districts in the state - Upper Subansiri, Siang and Changlang - were declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) on 31 December 2017.

India successfully test-fires AAD Supersonic Interceptor Missile

BJP wins Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Elections 2017

The counting of votes for assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh began at 42 centres on 18 December 2017 for all 68 assembly seats. The counting was supervised by 68 returning officers, one in every constituency. The first win was declared in Himachal Pradesh's Kasumpti for Congress candidate Anirudh Singh. He won by a margin of 9397 votes against BJP's Vijay Jyoti.

NGT declares Amarnath Cave shrine a 'Silent Zone'

In order to protect the eco-sensitive Amarnath cave shrine, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) declared it a "silence zone" and prohibited religious offerings like chanting of hymns, and ringing bells beyond the entry point. National Trachoma Survey Report 2014-17 released: India declared free from Trachoma

The survey findings indicate that the active trachoma infection has been eliminated among children in all the survey districts with overall prevalence of only 0.7 per cent. This is much below the elimination criteria of infective trachoma as defined by the WHO.

Microbes found on ISS resembles homes on Earth: Study

According to researchers, The International Space Station (ISS) has a 'very different’ community of microbes that are more similar to that of homes than of humans. The conclusion came from Project MERCCURI, a citizen science project that analysed bacteria found on 15 locations on the International Space Station and compared them with samples from homes on Earth as well as the Human Microbiome Project.

Shubhangi Swaroop becomes first woman to be inducted as Pilot in Indian Navy
