CAA In India
The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is a law in India that helps certain minorities from neighbouring countries who faced religious persecution. Tap to know about who will be impacted, eligibility, and the online process.
What is CAA?
CAA gives Indian nationality to religious persecution fleeing minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
The Effect on Indian Citizens
Indian citizens are not affected by this; CAA only applies to minorities from specific neighboring countries.
Online Application Process
An online portal simplifies CAA applications; there are no papers needed, and only your year of entry into India should be declared.
Three Designated Countries
CAA addresses persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh due to state religions.
Eligible Applicants
Categories include but are not limited to people of Indian origin, individuals married to Indian nationals, and minor children.
Conditions for Citizenship
Applicants need 12 months in India with six spent in the preceding eight years. A declaration of renunciation is also required.
No Connection to NRC
CAA has nothing to do with the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which verifies Indian citizens but is operationalized in Assam for controlling illegal immigration problems.
