Since 1996, there have been multiple failed attempts to pass legislation establishing legislative reservations for women.
Bill drawn up in 2008
The bill, which was created in 2008, has been on hold ever since the Rajya Sabha approved it in 2010. In the Lok Sabha, it was never brought up.
Amendment Act
According to the bill, the reservation of the seats for the women shall cease to exist 15 years after the commencement of the Amendment Act.

Though the BJP and the Congress have always supported the bill, there were hurdles in the form of opposition by other parties.
