Year
In 1999, the Kargil War occurred along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistani army sent troops to seize control of the region.
War Started
When Pakistan started the high elevations of the rugged mountainous region of Kargil with about 5000 forces and took control of it on May 3, 1999.
Operation Vijay
Operation Vijay was conducted by the Indian army to drive back the invaders who had treacherously occupied Indian Territory when the Indian Government learned about it.
Goal
The primary goal of the Indian army were to disrupt the linkages between Ladakh and Kashmir and to stir up conflict along the Indian border.
Scenario before the Kargil War
The Pakistani Army began secret training and deployed troops near Kargil with an effort to control the area and seize control of Siachen Glacier.
The story behind the war
The Lahore Declaration, which made a bilateral and peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict a promise, was signed by the two nations in February 1999 to defuse the situation.
Rockets and Bombs
Almost 2.5 million shells, bombs, and rockets launched. On average, 300 cannons, mortars, and MBRLs fired 5,000 artillery shells, mortar bombs, and rockets every day.
