On July 8, 1988, ten carriages of the Island Express derailed and plummeted off the Peruman bridge into the Asthamudi Lake in Kerala, resulting in train catastrophe.

Firozabad Train Collision

Following a collision between the Purushottam Express and the Kalindi Express at Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, on August 20, 1995, at least 358 persons perished.
