The Impact RISE Conference: A New Era of Funding
In Janaury 2026, IIT Kharagpur organised the Impact RISE Conclave, where many scholars, ministers, scientists and government officials were present. The major focus of the summit was sustainable rural development and health sanitation.
It was a defining moment that transformed the importance of theoretical research to Capital for Climate. The institution also introduced the Impact RISE Venture Fund, which will majorly provide initial finance to entrepreneurs focused on decarbonization, circular economy, and climate-resilient infrastructure. The Net Zero Campus Roadmap

Introduction of Green Curriculum
For students at IIT KGP, this year's (2026) curriculum offers mandatory modules on the Circular Economy and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Many students studying in the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering are now using IoT-enabled Smart Farming techniques to reduce their water and fertilizer impact. Meanwhile, the Civil Engineering department is moving towards CO2 sequestering concrete to build environmentally friendly buildings.
Paani Bawni Initiative
In another attempt, IIT KGP has been working on water conservation in green technology. With the Paani Bawni project, a team is managing local groundwater using satellite data and IoT sensors.They are also helping local farmers increase harvest by using less water by developing a Digital Twin of the region's water table. This will help get close to climate adapatation effectively.
