Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi Key Highlights 2025

The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT) was founded to conduct Research and Development, along with offering degrees and conducting educational programs. This institute is rapidly growing to become India's top research-focused teaching institute.

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT) offers six academic departments to aspiring candidates who want to pursue their PhD from this institute. The six departments are as follows:-

Computer Science and Engineering Computational Biology Electronics and Communications Engineering Mathematics Social Sciences and Humanities Human-Centred and Design

These programs allow the candidates to finish their degree in as little as four years, provided they meet all the requirements set by the university. This institute also allows fresh B. Tech graduates to apply for the offered programs, and neither GATE nor a master’s degree is required. Previously, IIIT Delhi offered a monthly fellowship of ₹37,000 for students in these programs. However, effective January 1, 2025, the institute has increased the Ph.D. fellowship to ₹60,000 per month, making it the highest in the country.

Research Areas Offered by Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi

The Ph.D program offered by the IIIT Delhi aims to empower students for the global research community and prepare them to contribute to top research organisations and universities globally. Admissions to these programs are made through both regular and rolling methods. The regular admissions are held twice a year, and the cycle is February to April and September to November.  The IIIT PhD graduates hold faculty positions in leading universities in both India and abroad. Some of these leading institutes are IIT-Gandhinagar, IISc, BITS-Pilani, and IIT-Allahabad.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to the PhD program offered by IIIT Delhi

The Ph.D. program at IIIT-Delhi aims to prepare students for the global research community, enabling them to contribute to top universities and research organisations worldwide. The program follows best practices from leading universities. Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi offers PhD programs in six academic departments, and to get admission in these programs, there is a minimum eligibility criterion provided by the official body. 

Given below are some common eligibility criteria to be eligible for the PhD program at IIIT Delhi:-

• A candidate should have a master’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 7.5.
• A candidate may need to sit for entrance examinations like GATE, UGC NET, etc, which are usually followed by an interview (depending upon the course).
