IIT Madras, Chennai- Students of BS (Bachelor of Science) background in Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT) Madras will soon get to enroll for Master’s in Data Science in New Zealand. This will allow eligible students to pursue advanced studies in data science from esteemed educational institutions in the country abroad. 

As per the official statement from the university introducing the new route is to promote global academic exposure for Indian students and solidify crossnational bonding between the two nations. It will not only offer exposure to students but also help expand collaboration in teaching and research in the field.  

Following the announcement, students after completing their bachelor’s degree at IIT Madras will get to upgrade for Master in Applied Data Science programme at the University of Canterbury, as per eligibility.

Under this framework, eligible students who have scored well in their BS degree at IIT Madras will hget the academic opportunity to enroll for postgraduate admission at the university based on academic requirements and overall academic track, forming a seamless track from undergraduate to postgraduate study. Students can also get to utilise the credits secured in bachelor’s to secure direct entry to specialized PG programs without having to appear for entrance exams. 

Both the institutions are also looking to establish the course on digital formats such as SWAYAM, NPTEL, and NEPTEL+ for an easy and more access to anyone looking to study or expand their academic experience in the field. For digital establishment of programmes and outreaching, The Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) at IIT Madras will be managing the overall partnership and related elements to it. 

For students studying in IIT Madras, for a BS course this will be a golden opopotunity to get study abroad exposure, master the relevant skills from the renowned university of New Zealand while also developing on-campus experience for master’s students.
