University of Calcutta which is popularly known as Calcutta University, is a State University, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established in 1857 and has received the status of "Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Area" and "University with potential for excellence" by the UGC. Calcutta University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses. Admission to the courses is based on merit and entrance examination. Candidates must fulfil the Calcutta University admission criteria to be eligible for the courses. The University offers placement to its students in reputed organisations of various sectors. For Calcutta University placements, the university invites various companies to participate in the placement drive. The company visits the university campus to conduct the placement process which involves a pre-placement talk, written test, group discussion and personal interview. Candidates shortlisted in the placement process are given an offer letter by the company and the candidates have to join the company by the date mentioned in the offer letter.
