Early life of CV RAman

He was born in Trichinopoly, India, on November 7, 1888, and passed away in Bangalore on November 21, 1970.

Mentored many students

He established the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian Journal of Physics, helped establish almost all of the country's research institutes, and mentored hundreds of students.

Indian Institute of Science

In 1929, Raman became the head of the physics department at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore in 1933. He was appointed director of the Raman Research Institute in 1947.

What did he discover?

In 1928, he discovered that when a transparent material is exposed to a single-frequency light beam, some of the light will emerge in the original direction and some of the light will have a different frequency.

University of Calcutta

He started working as an accountant for the Indian government's financial department and in 1917, he was appointed physics professor at the University of Calcutta.

Nobel Prize in Physics

For discovering that some light is deflected and changes in wavelength when it passes through a transparent substance, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.

Achievements of cv raman

In 1941, he received the Franklin Medal. In 1954, he received India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna. He received the Lenin Peace Prize in 1957.
