History of padma awards
The Padma Awards were instituted in 1954. Since 1978, on Republic Day, these awards have been given out annually, with the exception of 1978 and 1979 and 1993 to 1997.
Approvals by PM and president
The President and Prime Minister receive the recommendations from the Awards Committee for their approval.
Winners are announced on 26th january
The awardees are announced and presented by the President of India at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 26 of each year.
This award does not include money
There is no financial remuneration associated with these prizes, nor are there any concessions or incentives related to train or plane travel.
When are the nominations held?
Nominations for the Padma Awards are accepted from May 1 to September 15 of each year.
Presented by the president of India
The President of India signs a Sanad and presents the honours with a medallion.
