Do you know?
A RAC ticket means you can travel but may not get a full seat. Here’s what you should do if you get one.
Meaning of RAC
RAC means you have a seat but not a full sleeping berth. You can still travel, but may share your seat with someone. You won’t miss your journey even if the seat is shared.
Check Final Status
Before boarding, check the final chart online or at the station. Your RAC ticket might get confirmed to a full berth. Sometimes it turns into a confirmed seat before the train starts.
Boarding Allowed
Even with RAC, you are allowed to board the train. You will usually get half a seat to sit during the journey. Don’t worry, you can still travel with an RAC ticket.
Sharing the Seat
RAC passengers usually share a lower berth with another RAC ticket holder until one of them gets a full seat. You may need to sit during the night if not confirmed.
Upgrade Chances
If someone cancels their ticket, your RAC ticket may get upgraded. So keep checking your PNR status before and after boarding. You may get lucky and get a full seat!
Talk to the TTE
If your ticket doesn’t get confirmed, talk to the TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner). They may help you get a full seat. TTE may allot you a free berth if there’s a cancellation.
