Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University is a State University, established in 1982 and located in Hyderabad, Telangana. BRAOU was established by an Act of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. Earlier, it was known as the Andhra Pradesh Open University which was later renamed to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University in 1991. BRAOU has been approved by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and is the First Open University in India.

BRAOU offers B.Ed Spl Ed., B.Ed, B.Sc, M.Com, B.Com, M.Lib.I.Sc, B.Lib.I.Sc, B.A, MBA, PGD, M.Sc, M.A and Ph.D courses. BRAOU course admissions to B.Sc, B.Com, B.A, M.Sc, M.Com, M.A and B.Lib.I.Sc are done on the basis of marks obtained in 10+2/Graduation. For admission to B.Lib.I.Sc, candidates should have at least one year of experience working in a recognised library. Admissions to MBA and B.Ed Spl Ed. are done on the basis of TS ICET/AP ICET and entrance test conducted by BRAOU scores respectively.
