The 2024-25 placement season at IIT Kharagpur began on December 1st, with more than 800 job offers, including PPOs, extended to the graduating class on the very first day. This impressive start, despite a tough job market, highlights the institute's continued attractiveness to leading global companies.
Nine students received offers surpassing Rs 1 crore, with the highest package totaling Rs 2.14 crore. Additionally, 13 students secured international positions. Leading companies such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, DE Shaw, Capital One, and Databricks were among the top recruiters.

The majority of roles offered were in software development, analytics, finance, banking, consulting, and core engineering. Companies such as Capital One, Microsoft, Flipkart, and Qualcomm made notable offers to students.
Prof. V K Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur, emphasised the institution's resilience and reputation. "Despite a slower placement season, receiving over 800 offers on the first day highlights our dedication to developing leaders for national progress. It demonstrates the trust companies have in our graduates and the strength of our academic legacy," he stated.
Interviews took place in a hybrid format, with several companies visiting the campus in person. Prof. Rajib Maity, Chairperson of the Career Development Centre (CDC), highlighted the significance of focused outreach and industry collaboration. In a statement from the Institute, he stated, "Our efforts to build strong relationships with companies and understand the changing market demands have been essential in ensuring placement excellence."
This year's placement process also included the Academia-Industry Conclave (AIC 2024), designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The initiative facilitated knowledge exchange and reinforced IIT Kharagpur's standing as a leading destination for engineering talent.
The placement season will continue in the weeks ahead, with promising prospects for future phases.
