IIM Ahmedabad was established in 1961 and has remained at the number 1 position for colleges in India for a very long time. NIRF 2025 ranked the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad first, while the FT Business School Rankings 2025 ranked it 31st in the world. In the Financial Times&rsquo; Executive Education (Open) program Rankings for 2025, IIM Ahmedabad placed 35th, but another Financial Times rating in the category Career Progress Rank 2025 for IIMA&rsquo;s one-year MBA program ranked first. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has also topped the Eduniversal Best Master&rsquo;s ranking in Agribusiness and Food Industry Management for 2025. IIM Ahmedabad also placed 48th in the QS Business Master&rsquo;s Management Rankings 2026.
In 2017, the institute was accorded the status of an 'Institute of National Importance' by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Government of India.

Every year, about 90 students come to India to study at IIM Ahmedabad through its Student Exchange Programmes (SEPs), and around 150 students get a chance to visit abroad.
