Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, which is popularly known as IIT Roorkee, is a public university for Tech. studies. It was established as the College of Civil Engineering in British India in 1847. It is established in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. IIT Roorkee was established by James Thomason, the Lieutenant-Governor of the North-Western Provinces. It is ranked 5 on the NIRF 2023 Ranking List under the engineering category. IIT Roorkee has granted the status of &lsquo;Institution of National Importance&rsquo; by the MOE (Ministry of Education), Government of India.
