National Institute of Technology, Durgapur which is popularly known as NIT Durgapur was formerly called Regional Engineering College Durgapur, is a public funded autonomous technical institute under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. It was established in 1960 in Durgapur, West Bengal, India. It is ranked 43rd in the NIRF 2023 list under the <a href="https://www.jagranjosh.com/colleges/engineering">engineering college</a>&nbsp;category and is one of India's oldest technical institutes.&nbsp;

NIT Durgapur is declared as an &lsquo;Institution of National Importance&rsquo; by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Government of India. It offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate programmes. Admission to the programmes is made through national/state-level entrance examinations. Candidates are required to appear for the respective <a href="https://www.jagranjosh.com/exams/engineering">engineering exam</a>&nbsp;to fulfill the NIT Durgapur selection criteria to be eligible for admission. The institute has a Career Development Centre that guides the students through the process of NIT Durgapur placement and training. The placement drives are conducted every year for the students of their final year. Interested organisations have to fill up the Job Announcement Form (JAF) and then submit the necessary details to the placement cell. The visiting organisations also conduct pre-placement talks before the final interview. NIT Durgapur has a campus size of 187 acres with a student and faculty count of 3588 and 210 respectively.
