National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela which is popularly known as NIT Rourkela was formerly called Regional Engineering College Rourkela is a public funded, autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. It was established on 15 August 1961 in Rourkela, Odisha, India. It is the 31st National Institutes of Technology in India and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. It is ranked 16 in the NIRF 2023 List under the engineering category.

NIT Rourkela offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programmes. Admission to the programmes is based on various national/state-level entrance examinations. Candidates are required to register for the respective entrance examinations to fulfill the NIT Rourkela admission criteria to be eligible for admission. NIT Rourkela placement cell helps students to get good placement opportunities in reputed organisations and firms from multiple sectors. The placement cell also offers internships to students for their practical experience. NIT Rourkela invites various companies to the placement drive. It also helps in conducting placement processes like pre-placement talks, written tests and group discussions. The recruiters guide the students from offering placement to the joining process. NIT Rourkela has a campus size of 647 acres with a student and faculty count of 4862 and 216 respectively.
