IIT Madras Launched BS in Chemistry and M Tech in Electric Vehicle Programs

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has recently launched two new programs in the Department of Chemistry and one in the Department of Engineering Design. These two new programs are:-

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
  • M.Tech in Electric Vehicles

By assisting them in resolving challenging, real-world issues, the courses aim to prepare graduates for leadership roles in the academic and automotive sectors. GATE results can be used to apply for admission to an M.Tech program in electric vehicles, whereas the IISER aptitude test is used to determine entrance to a BS program in chemistry.

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry curriculum.  To prepare students for jobs in research, industry, and academia, the Bachelor of Science program aims to give them a strong foundation in Chemistry and related Science topics by fusing theoretical knowledge with hands-on laboratory experience.

The goal of the four-year bachelor's degree in chemistry is to produce students who can use and assess their knowledge in a range of real-world scenarios for the benefit of society, as well as who have a strong conceptual understanding of the subject and related subjects. Students will receive around 402 credits overall from this program.

Courses offered in the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

There are many courses that are covered under the core chemistry in the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. These courses are taught over the four years of the program. Below is the list of some of the courses that are covered under the core chemistry courses in the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program:-

  • Basic Concepts of Inorganic Chemistry
  • Life Sciences
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Ecology and Environment
  • Basic Organic Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Thermodynamics
  • Quantum Mechanics and Spectroscopy
  • Organometallic Chemistry of Transition Metals
  • Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics
  • Solid State Chemistry
  • Advanced Coordination Chemistry, etc.

This program also offers an exit option after the third year in the same subject, but the candidates will be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Chemistry

M.Tech in Electric Vehicle

A student can choose from a variety of courses in the two-year M.Tech programs offered by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The Department of Engineering Design has added a new course to its M.Tech program. The newly introduced program is the M.Tech in Electric Vehicle. Candidates who wish to seek admission to this course can only apply with the GATE Scores.

Some of the research areas that the M.Tech in Electric Vehicles are offered in are as follows:-

Courses Offered in M.Tech in Electric Vehicles
