Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology which is popularly known as IIST Thiruvananthapuram is a deemed university for the study and research of space science. It is located in Valiamala, Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is the first university in Asia to be dedicated to the study and research of Outer space, established in 2007 by G. Madhavan Nair (the then Chairman of ISRO). IIST Thiruvananthapuram was set up by the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) under the Department of Space, Govt. of India and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was the Chancellor of IIST. IIST Thiruvananthapuram is ranked at 48th position in the engineering category as per NIRF rankings 2023.
IIST Trivandrum: Highlights
IIST Thiruvananthapuram offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses. Admission to the courses is based on entrance examinations. Candidates must fulfil the IIST admission criteria to be eligible for the courses. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram has a placement cell that acts as a link between students and recruiters. The IIST placement cell invites companies during the placement drive. It also provides different types of internships like 1-year internships, 1-semester internships, Industry-partnered research internships and B.Tech internships during summer/winter vacation. IIST Trivandrum has a campus size of 100 acres with a student and faculty count of 962 and 98 respectively.
